A Hispanic couple who was heading to their work shift was detained by ICE agents after making a brief stop at a gas station to get coffee, according to their family, who shared the story through a GoFundMe campaign created to request community support.

The sister of the detained woman, Danilett Calles, explained in the campaign that she had traveled from Spain on November 13 to surprise her relatives in the United States, whom she had not seen in three years.

On November 15, the couple left early to work at Amazon.

Shortly after 6 a.m., they stopped at a gas station to get coffee. It was then that immigration agents arrived and detained them.

According to the account, both were processed and separated into different sections.

That same morning, Danilett recalls waking up at 5 a.m. and seeing a message sent by her sister.

The text said to lie down next to the child so he could sleep a little longer, as they usually took him early when leaving for work.

At 10 a.m., after not hearing from the couple, she received a call from her brother-in-law’s brother.

He informed her that the couple had been detained and asked her to go to Crosspoint to pick up the car keys and her sister’s phone.

Since then, the child has remained under her care.

Danilett explained that they managed to communicate with the detained couple and calm them down somewhat despite the situation.

The family immediately began seeking legal assistance to understand the steps to follow.

Request for help to cover legal expenses

In the message shared on the campaign, Danilett detailed that they had spoken with an immigration attorney.

According to her explanation, the attorney indicated that the couple detained by ICE would be eligible for release on bond.

For this reason, the GoFundMe was created with the goal of raising funds for necessary legal fees.

The woman also noted that she lives in Spain and that the child remains temporarily under her care.

She therefore requested support to expedite the processes and ensure the couple can be released before she returns home.

The campaign emphasizes that the family’s priority is to reunite them and guarantee that the child can see his parents again as soon as possible.
